General Info & Guidelines

Every Year, We All Enjoy Coming Together At Wheatland!

Wheatland Music Festival 51st annual, Remus Mich. September 2024

It takes tremendous cooperation from everyone to keep this a family-oriented safe event.  Please be aware of the following guidelines, so that everyone can enjoy that “Wheatland Spirit.”

While some of the rules might seem extreme, they now exist because of problems we have encountered over the last few years.  We want to make the festival a safe and happy experience for everyone.

If any guidelines are unclear please call or e-mail the main office for clarification: 989-967-8879 / [email protected]

Sunday Evening Departure
We know none of us want to leave!  Nevertheless …
The Festival closes at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday – Everyone is expected to leave by that time.

Keep Wheatland Clean & Green! – Wheatland is working hard to revamp and expand our recycling and waste management programs at the festival.  “Keep Wheatland Clean & Green” is a combined effort between our Recycling and Trash Consciousness coordinators, committee members, and festival-goers.  Our goal is to better serve and respect the land that has given us so much, and to make you feel great about taking care of the Wheatland you know and love.

Your Wheatland Ticket (Wristband)

Wear your wristband on your wrist where it can be seen all weekend. Wear your wristband as you enter the Main Gate area – it will speed up your entry.  Be careful not to put your wristband on too tightly – they do not stretch.  Persons without wrist tickets (wristbands) will be ejected from the Festival.  If they return, they will be arrested & prosecuted.  Persons with counterfeit wristbands will be ticketed, evicted and prosecuted.  A private, uniformed security company will patrol the perimeter of the festival grounds.

Minors

Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over age 21.  Minors in possession of alcohol will be ticketed, evicted and prosecuted.

Children’s Wristbands

Put wristbands on children that include parent name(s), parent contact info and any important medical information.  Children’s wristbands are available for free at the Kids Hill Tent.

Friday Entry – See Main Gate

Friday morning entry to the festival will be at the Main Gate only.  Please consult the parking/line-up map provided with your wristbands (also available here).  No parking along the roads leading to the festival site until 9am on Friday morning. The roads must be kept clear so that emergency vehicles, school buses, and our neighbors can get through. Violators will be ticketed and/or towed by the Mecosta County Sheriff Department.

Thursday Arrivals – See Early Entry Rules

If you plan on arriving Thursday and parking overnight in one of the neighboring areas, the Sheriff’s Department says that you cannot line up on the public roadways prior to the opening of those areas.  Opening times are 3:00PM Thursday for the area on Pierce Rd and 6:00PM for the area on the corner of Pierce Rd and 5oth Ave.  This is for safety reasons.  The area will be patrolled by the Sheriff’s deputies.

No Land Rush – Pedestrians Permitted After Noon

Due to escalating safety issues in recent years and also that “no saving spaces” will be strictly enforced, we have had to put the kibosh on the Friday morning Land Rush.  Walk-ins will be permitted after the entry traffic alleviates around noon on Friday.

Respect Your Neighbors

Respect your neighbors and your neighbors’ property.  Please report problem behavior to the WMO staff.  Problem behavior may result in expulsion from the festival.

No Saving/Reserving Campsites

No saving spaces/campsites has been a longstanding Wheatland policy, although laxly enforced in the past.  Please be prepared for this policy to be enforced at this year’s and future years’ festivals.

Although many of us have longstanding campground traditions, saving open spaces for someone arriving later in the day is unfair to those who have gotten here early, suffered through the dreaded wait in line and are ready to set up camp.  To increase your chances of camping in a group arrive early and together.  If it doesn’t work out, chances are you will at least end up nearby each other and maybe even make a few new Wheatland friends.

Setting Up Camp

As you set up camp:
Do not save/reserve campsites.
Do not block fire lines.
Park all campers and motor homes with either tongue or nose facing toward the road/lane for quickest exit in the unlikely event of an evacuation.
Stay within the farm boundaries.
Do not drive into or through the campgrounds after 9PM.
No generators allowed.

Audio Equipment

Traditional acoustic music and blasters don’t mix. The use of stereos, amplifiers, radios, and the generators to power them are prohibited.

Fire Safety

No fires.  The use of heat-producing devices in the Pines is strictly prohibited – very high fire danger!  This includes, but is not limited to: charcoal grills, Coleman Lanterns, camp stoves, as well as cigarettes, etc. Ground fires are not permitted anywhere on the festival site. Firearms and fireworks are strictly prohibited. No generators allowed.

Recycling

As always, Wheatland plans to collect and recycle glass bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans, and compostable material. Look for collection barrels around the Festival site or stop by the Recycling Tent for more information. Please take a few extra minutes to clean up your campsite, deposit your trash in the appropriate receptacle, and recycle your recyclables. If you don’t want to be bothered with returning your cans and bottles and want to be sure that your 10 cents is supporting a good cause, take your bottles and cans behind the Recycling Tent. Each year, a non-profit youth group will benefit.

Shuttle Bus

We encourage you to use the free shuttle bus service rather than driving into Remus. Friday 4pm-10pm; Saturday from 9am-10pm; Sunday from 9am-6pm.  You must have a wrist ticket to ride the bus. No exceptions.

Driving After 9PM

No driving in the campgrounds after 9PM.  If you arrive after 9PM you will be put in Day Parking for the night, but you must be ready by 8AM to move into the campgrounds.  If you know you will be leaving after 9PM, please park in Day Parking.

Day Parking

Day parking is available and intended for people who are not camping. Please do not leave your cars in this area for the weekend. Park near your campsite and plan on taking the shuttle to town. Many of these spaces are needed for our Sunday only ticket holders.

Help

Workers are available 24 hours a day to handle problems in the campgrounds. They can be identified by their red WMO t-shirts. If you need to report an injury, a fire, have rowdy neighbors who are making too much noise too late at night, or want assistance with any other problem in your area, these are the people to look for. Look for safety stations in six locations: the Little Red Schoolhouse just south of the Dance Pavilion; The Chapel in The Pines halfway down Workshop Lane; between the Quiet Area and Hotmud Holler; two in Henrie Brothers camp, and on the north edge of Lost World camp. You can also report concerns at the information center.

Personal Transportation & If you require assistance

Transportation is available if you need help getting around the festival site. Ask for assistance at the Information Center, the Main Gate, or any Safety Station.  No skateboards, bicycles (unless that’s how you got here), golf carts or personal transportation devices other than those designated for handicap use are permitted.

Weapons Policy

With recent changes in Michigan’s concealed weapons statute, many more people are now legally carrying guns. While there may be circumstances where carrying a concealed weapon is justified, the Wheatland Music Organization’s Board of Directors does not believe they have a place at our festival. Accordingly, to promote and maintain a safe, threat and violence free workplace, reduce the potential for threats or violence involving weapons; minimize risks to personnel, customers, and visitors and to protect the organization’s reputation, the board has adopted a policy prohibiting the possession of weapons on festival grounds or at activities sponsored by WMO. Persons found in possession of dangerous weapons will be asked to remove them from WMO property immediately. Failure to do so will result in expulsion from the premises. Please leave all weapons at home. Anyone desiring additional information on this or any other policy may speak to a board member at the info tent.

Alcohol/Substance Policy

Underage persons observed in the possession of, or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be referred to Sheriff’s Deputies.  Adults who are creating problems will be referred to WMO Staff.  If there is no cooperation or improvement in their problem behaviors, Sheriff’s Department personnel will be notified. The offending person or persons will be evicted.  This may include the families or guardians of teens, or all members of any disruptive campsites.  If there are problems with the eviction, they will be prosecuted for any and all applicable violations of the law.  Serious or repeat problems will result in persons being permanently banned from the Festival.  Secure your alcoholic beverages and/or coolers when you leave your campsite or Main Stage area.

T-Shirts

Festival t-shirts will be on sale at the booth in the Information Center Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check Friday afternoon for sale items from last year.

Do not videotape or audiotape Festival performers. Rather, please visit the booth in the Information Building where their recordings and videos are for sale.

Vending

Unauthorized vending is not allowed at the festival. Offenders will be evicted from the festival, and their merchandise confiscated.

Please keep drumming limited to the reserved drumming area.  Refer to the current year’s festival program for drumming hours.
