Wheatscouts - 'Play Party Dances' with Stephanie Terpening @ Gladys Wernette Classroom Building

Does your child love music and movement? Then join us for our for a fun, free Wheatscouts event on January 14th!

(Free event – Snacks will be provided)

This event is most enjoyable for kids ages 5+, accompanied by an adult. Younger kids are welcome to watch and/or participate!

About the event

Kids will participate in songs and dances such as e.g., ‘Way down low in the cedar swamp’ and ‘Jolly is the miller’, which have their roots in American folk music. In addition to leading the music, Stephanie will explain what a “play party game” is and teach fun folk-dance moves such as promenade, sashay, reel, and casting the lines.
We’d love for the parents to participate as well!

About Wheatscouts

Wheatland Music Organization (501(c)(3)) children’s program was started at Wheatland in 1987 with the purpose of introducing children of all ages to folk arts and traditional music in a casual, kid-friendly setting. Wheatscouts events are free of charge and open to the public. All ages of children are welcome, no preregistration required.
From learning about different square & contra dances, songs, storytelling, string & percussion music instruments to crafts & activities like bookbinding, nature walks and tie-dye – we focus on finding new ways to teach the old ways.

Wheatscouts meets the 2nd Saturday (October – May) 11 AM till 1 PM in the Gladys Wernette Classroom / Main building on the Wheatland Music site. The event includes a break with healthy snacks provided. Feel free to bring your own food if you or your child have dietary restrictions, or simply to share it with the group!
Each one of our monthly gathering is uniquely themed. Follow the Wheatland website (wheatlandmusic.org) or the Wheatscouts – Traditional Arts & Music for Kids Facebook page for updates.
