About the event

Gray Reynolds (they/them) is a multi-instrumentalist who grew up in the mid-Michigan folk music community and is a former Wheatscout. They started out studying fiddle with Bruce Bauman and have since branched out to include other instruments like tenor banjo, mandolin, and guitar in their repertoire. Recently, Gray has been a participant in Ethno Sweden and Ethno USA, two branches of an international traditional music camp, where they spent two weeks learning and teaching folk music with other musicians from around the world. In addition to making music, Gray is a printmaker whose work often draws from and celebrates the American traditional music community.

About Wheatscouts

Wheatland Music Organization (501(c)(3)) children’s program was started at Wheatland in 1987 with the purpose of introducing children of all ages to folk arts and traditional music in a casual, kid-friendly setting. Wheatscouts events are free of charge and open to the public. All ages of children are welcome, no pre-registration required.

From learning about different square & contra dances, songs, storytelling, string & percussion music instruments to crafts & activities like bookbinding, nature walks and tie-dye – we focus on finding new ways to teach the old ways.

Wheatscouts meets the 2nd Saturday (October – May) 11 AM till 1 PM in the Gladys Wernette Classroom / Main building on the Wheatland Music site. The event includes a break with healthy snacks provided. Feel free to bring your own food if you or your child have dietary restrictions, or simply to share it with the group!

Each one of our monthly gathering is uniquely themed. Follow the Wheatland website (wheatlandmusic.org) or the Wheatscouts – Traditional Arts & Music for Kids Facebook page for updates.
