Wheatscouts - Sat MAR 9: Learn Harmonica with Mike Ross @ Gladys Wernette Classroom Building

Join us and presenter Mike Ross for “ Learning to Play the Harmonica’, notes and simple tunes! For the younger artists, we will be making Kazoo’s and Tambourines! Each child will keep their harmonica and can continue to explore sounds and songs.

Mike says “I got my first harmonica when I was 16 years old. I have been playing harmonica with people and teaching for many years. I have taught harmonica at Elderly Instruments and the Wheatland Festival. I will be teaching some simple familiar tunes at the workshop.” Mike has received the MSU Traditional Arts Program Heritage Award as part of the Pretty Shaky String Band in 2023. Mike teaches with telling iconic and humorous stories about traditional songs, and I guarantee kids and parents alike will chuckle their way through this workshop.

About Wheatscouts
Wheatland Music Organization (501(c)(3)) children’s program was started at Wheatland in 1987 with the purpose of introducing children to folk arts and traditional music in a casual, kid-friendly setting. Wheatscouts events are free of charge, open to the public, and children of all ages are welcome. No preregistration or WMO membership is required. Parents are required to stay on-site for the duration of the event.

From learning about different square & contra dances, songs, storytelling, string & percussion music instruments to crafts & activities like bookbinding, nature walks, and tie-dye – we focus on finding new ways to teach the old ways.

Wheatscouts meets the 2nd Saturday (October – May) 11 AM till 1 PM in the Gladys Wernette Classroom building on the Wheatland Music site. The event includes a break with healthy snacks provided. Feel free to bring your own food if you or your child have dietary restrictions, or simply to share it with the group!
