IRISH / CELTIC GUITAR ACCOMPANIMENT | Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Required Skills: For intermediate to advanced level players with knowledge of and ability to play the basic major/minor/seventh guitar chords and to move between chords comfortably.
Fundamentals of playing Irish music on the guitar in standard tuning, with primary emphasis on accompaniment of melody instruments using the plectrum. Rhythmic patterns and right hand methods for accompanying jigs, hornpipes, reels. Using chord progressions beyond 1-4-5. Use of bridging and passing chords. Learning tunes on the guitar as a lead instrument. Playing the guitar in sessions. Review of some non-standard tunings. After-hours tutorials if desired.
BIO
David Bowen is a multi-instrumental musician and balladeer whose performances have been heard from coast to coast across the United States, Canada, and Ireland. He is a two-time medalist for his guitar accompaniment in the prestigious Fleadh Cheoill All-Ireland World Music Championship competitions. David is also an experienced piano accompanist for ceili band and contra dance ensembles, and is an award-winning old time banjo player.
