2012 Festival Performers
We are pleased announce the performer line-up for the 39th Annual Wheatland Music Festival!
September 7th, 8th and 9th, 2012
2012 Main Stage Performers
Eric Bibb String Band
A performance by Eric Bibb is an enriching experience – both musically and spiritually. Purveying a beautifully realized and deftly accomplished, soulful and gospel infused, folk-blues, Eric has no problem melding a traditional rootsy American style with a subtle contemporary sensibility. As one critic wrote, “Eric’s singing and versatile guitar playing fuses a variety of genres to become a New World Blues”. Musical legend Taj Mahal says, ”Eric is one of the new, young singers that has appeared on the scene that, much to my delight, has a great voice, is an excellent performer and has a great knowledge about the roots of this music.” Of course, we don’t need to tell you that. We hope you will join us in welcoming Eric Bibb back to the Wheatland Main Stage!

The Gibson Brothers
Recently, a No Depression blogger referred to members of the band as “…the Gibson Brothers who don’t share the Gibson name.” But there’s no doubt they’re a band of musical brothers. Steve Leftridge of PopMatters described them this way: “Eric and Leigh Gibson might have, pound-for-pound, the most impeccably fine-sounding traditional bluegrass band on the contemporary scene. …the reason these guys can’t lose is that, quite simply, they sound so great. Eric and Leigh sing bluegrass’ tightest harmony blend, and, instrumentally the group plays with unmatched alacrity and taste. “ The other Gibson “Brothers” are Mike Barber (bass), Clayton Campbell (fiddle), and Joe Walsh (mandolin).
The Gibson Brothers are widely recognized as the finest brother duet in bluegrass music today. We are thrilled to include them in the 2012 Wheatland Festival lineup.

De Temps Antan
It takes a special blend of musical flair to create memorable songs of yesteryear—songs with a hint of contemporary, dosed with uncontrolled laughter, deep-rooted couplets and sudden, impromptu shifts, that speak to familiar rhythms of the past. Welcome to the original musical stylings of De Temps Antan!
Since 2003, Éric Beaudry, André Brunet and Pierre-Luc Dupuis have been exploring and performing time-honored melodies from the stomping grounds of Quebec’s musical past. Using fiddle, accordion, harmonica, guitar, bouzouki and a number of other instruments, these three virtuosos blend boundless energy with the unmistakable joie de vivre found only in traditional Quebec music. In fact, the only thing missing from this magnificent musical blend is a Wheatland audience, eager to participate in The Return of De Temps Antan.

Ruthie Foster
When Ruthie Foster lays it down, you’d be well advised to listen. This extraordinary songwriter/performer tackles life’s big issues in her music.
With a sound that ignores demographic lines and a charisma that can ignite any audience, Foster has emerged as an artist of all-encompassing appeal. This was only a matter of time. Even as a young girl, she was taking in a wide variety of music, whether through hymns her mother taught her, Beatles songs from a book given by her guitar teacher, 45s her truck-driving uncle would drop off during his visits, the old-school country she heard while watching various country variety shows with her grandfather, or the pop songs that crackled through the family radio. “It didn’t matter to me what genre it was,” she remembers. “I just took it all in as great music – music that moved me.”
We’re told Ruthie was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm of the Wheatland audience during her first festival appearance. Now that she’s met us and we’ve experienced her, we can’t wait to see her perform again.
